Costner: Houston overcame doubts to be great

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Kevin Costner is remembering his "Bodyguard" co-star Whitney Houston for her ability to overcome her doubts to achieve greatness and for her distinctive talent.
The actor spoke Saturday at Houston's funeral in Newark, N.J.

He tells of what the pair had in common: Both had been raised in the Baptist church and both liked to sing. He says Houston, of course, was a much better singer.
1992's "The Bodyguard" was a smash hit. Hollywood.com says it made $121.9 million domestically and was No. 7 on that year's hit list. Costner tells of his persistence in getting her cast but credits Houston for an outstanding performance.
Houston died Feb. 11. She was 48. A cause of death hasn't been determined.
